William Montgomery, born about 1754 in Ireland or England
(1) Place unsure at this time, married to Mary Johnston (Johnson), born14 Sep 1761. They lived in Washington Co. Penn. Moving to Clark Co. Indiana sometime between 1805 and 1808. William died 25 Jan 1829 in the 75th year of his age and Mary died 1 Sep 1847, 85 Y 11 Mo 17 D. They are both buried in Fouts-Robinson (Fouts-Work,Fouts Henely) Cemetery near New Washington, Clark Co. Indiana.

The first evidence that we find of William Montgomery in Indiana is 2 May 1808 when he entered land at the Jeffersonville land office and gives his place of residence as Indiana Territory.

William Montgomery made payments on these paying the first two off 29 Sep 1813. He paid off the third one 16 Mar 1814 and the fourth Quarter Section sometime later.

"This branch of the Montgomery family originated in England, whereThomas Montgomery was born with a brother" William Montgomery. "he cameto America in 1769. It has been reported that they were Sailors in the English Navy, later siding with the Americas, and serving as a soldiers through the war of the Revolution.
Is this why their first land grants in Pennsylvania were named Antigua & Saint Lucie? Both were British ports, islands inthe Caribbean and Naval Bases about 1760.

and served as a soldier throughthe war of the Revolution. His cousin was General Montgomery, not proven at this time, who fell at the storming of Quebec. The home of ThomasMontgomery was in Virginia but he afterwards migrated to Kentucky. His son William Montgomery was born in Virginia November 20, 1786 and at the age of 10 accompanied the family to Kentucky."(3)

William Montgomery had a brother, Thomas Montgomery (2), that was born in Ireland in 1748, died 30 Aug 1834 in Nelson County Ky. Thomas Montgomery married Nancy Johnston, a sister of Mary Johnston and a daughter of William Johnston who died in Nelson Co. Ky. (1) In William Johnston's will Dated 13 Dec 1813 he mentions son- in- laws William Montgomery and Thomas Montgomery; leaves William $762.00 and mentions son-in-law Francis Cunningham and sons John Johnston and Robert Johnston.

All of Williams and Mary Montgomery's children were born in Pennsylvania, except Alexander who was possibly born in Clark Co. In.
