    John N.'s first wife was Luceva Ward. She died on June 5 1850, in LaSalle County, Ill, shortly after their first son, J. Ivor was born.
    John N. married his second wife, Amanda Harriet Springstead (Strider) in

    LaSalle County, Ill.
    Amanda had been married before to a John Strider of LaSalle County. They must

    have had at least one child together. John Strider's will shows his property being willed to a Mary J. who was married to a John M. Montgomery of Iroquois County, Ill. Mary J. and John M. Montgomery's names appear later, in about 1869-1872, on land sale documents selling this land to a Wallace Doudanville. John N. and Amanda also sold land bordering Mary's parcels to Doudanville about the same time frame.

    The first property owned by John N. in Illinois was in Earlville, Ill., a parcel of about 10 acres on the northeast side of the town.

    The second piece of property owned by John N. was 80 acres just about 4 miles north of Ottawa, Ill., bordering on what is today Illinois State Highway 23, in Dayton Township.

    John N. and Amanda H. moved to Iowa (near Iowa Falls) in 1867-69.

    According to history written and passed down by J.Ivor, his grandson, he was a captain in Kimball's Ohio Militia Volunteers during War of 1812 and was one of 33 refugees from the massacre of "The River Raisin". Also was passed down was that he was a personal friend and counselor of General Harrison.
