  • Notes
    • PRINCE OF BELLEME, COUNT OF ALENCON AND PONTHIEU
REF:HISTORY OF THE MONTGOMERYS BY B.G. MONTGOMERY PG 67FF

Returned with his father, Roger II and William the Conqueror to Normandy to quell the revolt. During the seige of Fresney-le-Vicomte, Robert then only 17 years old, distinguished himself and was knighted by King William.
Between Robert and young Duke Robert called Courte-Heuse, a great friendship grew up. Unfortunately this friendship cost the family all its domains in England.
During the wars of session between the sons of the Conqueror, Robert of Belleme supported the eldest son Robert Courte Heuse against the younger brother Henry who had usurped the English Crown. While in the role of Ambassador for the Normans and French King Louis, he was attacked, and imprisoned. His eyes were burnt out with a white hot sword, and he died in Wharem Castle in about 1114.
