    • Ninth at Eaglesham and first Lord of Ardrossan. Victory over the English at Otterburn in 1388. Made Sir Henry Percy, Hotspur, prisoner. Built Polnoon Castle with the ransom.

      John Montgomery, 10th Baron of Eaglesham was the distinguished
      warrior who captured Henry Percy, called Hotspur, at the Battle of
      Otterburn in1388. With Percy's ransom he built the castle of
      Polnoon as well asacquiring the lands of Eglinton and Ardrossan
      through his marriage toElizabeth of Eglinton.
