    • REF:HISTORY AND ORIGINS OF MONTGOMERYS, BY B.G. MONTGOMERY In 1561, accompanied Queen Mary from France to Scotland, and was a steadfast supporter during the troubles immediately following her arrival in Scotland.
      By 1567 intrigues of Darnley, Rizzio,and James Hepburn, Earl of Bothwell, Eglinton took part in the action which led to her dethronement.
      In 1582, Eglinton took determined action against James VI and his rule by favorites.
