- Mamie was an old spinster. She owned the house located at 1634 Sixth St, N. O.,La. and every thing in it. It was a two-story-double. She lived there with her brother Joseph until she died. Joseph also lived there util he died. The house was full of old antique furniture which was brought to the US by her Grandparents in 1847. Much of the furniture was to go to grandchildren and great grandchildren but Mamie got mad at the rest of the family for reasons unknown at this time and willed 70% her estate her brother Joseph and 30% to a black woman name Mary Daisy Robertson.
The will was dated Nov 28,1956. Daisy was the child of a slave. Mamie took the child when she was young and raised her. When Daisy was older she worked for Mamie, did housework and cooking. Daisy lived in the house in the back, on the first floor. This made the family members very angry and so far none of the family treasures have ever been recovered. I, George Montgomery III, recall some of the marble-top tables, chairs, clocks and the many large bronz statues and a very large full 15 decade rosary made of wood.
