  • Notes
    • The following four pices of land were acquired by Louis Palms some time between 1857 and 1862. All the land has been classed "B", or Marsh land and is located in Township 13, South Range 16th East. The following is a brief history as best as can be determined from data available at this time ( April 1991) from the attornies.

The first four parcels of land were acquired by Louis Palms on July 31, 1860 under patent #10331 issued by the State of Louisiana. They were:
      1-Section 22, 11Lots (
2-Section 34, all ) The total area consists of
      3-Section 23, all ( 856.24 acres
      4-Section 28, all )

5-Louis Palms acquired 46.08 acres from Bernard Bermudez (date unknown)who acquired it from the State of La. under patent #1045 (no date). For unknown purposes of convenience, Palms sold this parcel to William Walsh on July 31, 1860 without the transfer of funds, but there was an understanding that that the property always belonged to Palms.

6-Fractional Section 327 consisting of 602.44 acres: The only evidence of ownership by Palms was a statement from the Louisiana Register Of the State Land Office ststing that "louis Palms, on February 28, 1861, entered the property"; and that this property consisted of 602.44 acres and was adjudicated to the state for 1911 and 1912 Taxes. This was eventually redeamed by the heirs.

7- Fractional Section 33, South and West of Bayou St. Malo
      8- Section 34, all, containing 227 acres
      9- Fractional Section 32, containing 39.42 acres
      10-Fractional Section 33, all

Louis Palms died on 10 Sep1886. On 10 Dec 1886, Elizabeth Palms was recognized as the sole heir of her husband Louis and by supplemental and amended judgements of 17 Oct 1899 she was recognized as the sole ownerof all this land. She was approched by Fritz Jahncke in 1899 and she apparently sold him most of the land. Parcel #6 above consisting, located on the edge of Lake Bargne and a part of Shell beach was not sold to Jahncke in 1899. It was, however, forgotten after the sale of Shell Beach. As far as can be determined, it is still part of the Estates of Louis and Elizabeth Palms.

The estate of Jane Walsh, wife of Patrick Bradley, acquired !/12 of that land from the estate of Elizabeth Palms and transfered 1/36 of her interest to one, C. Ellis Henican, Lawyer, for his services and research into acquiring title to this land. [ Mr Henican was still alive in Dec. 1991, however he was in his upper 90's.]

In 1931 Jane Walsh Bradley's estate still held 1/18 interest. Her son William Bradley acquired 7/126 interest in the land and his daughter Louise bradley Montgomery acquired { } interest that was passed on to her son George Montgomery III in 1988.
