      Meath, Ireland,U.K.

      The following paragraphs were taken from the first pages of the respective record books. It gives a brief history of the church and the men who served the people as Parish Priest. Origional wording, punctuation and spelling were used as much as possible to perserve the knowledge, thinking and way of life back in those early days in a Catholic Parish in Ireland. Where words had faded, could not be read or parts of the page was missing, dotted lines and question marks were used. if we could make out patrs of the word, we typed the word as we thought it was and put it in brackets.

      Revd. Francis Luttrell appointed P.P. (Parish Priest) of Oldcastle and Loughcrew A.D. 1690. Revd. Owen Scally P.P. of Oldcastle, Loughcrew and Maylough 1704 - ordained in Dublin by Dr. Plunket 1676. The Revd.
      Charles Reilly succeeded and died about the year 1740- next came Revd.
      Hugh Brady born in Ballinaeree- nearly 50 years P.P. died 8th Dec- 1788 buried in old churchyard of Maylough. Revd. Joseph O'Ferall translated from Devlin 9 Dec.1788 was afterwards translated to Kells 4th January 1789.

      Revd. Bryan Reilly succeeded as Pastor 1792 and was translated to Athboy 4 Jan.-1807

      Revd. George McDermott suceeded 10th Feb. 1807 - died 5th Jan. 1832

      Revd. George Leonard succeeded 12th 1832 and died 5th April AD 1877 buried in Moylough new grave yard. Revd. Thomas Allen succeeded on the 11th Nov. 1877 and translated to St. Mary Drogheda March 4th 1880 -- Revd. Jospeh Coyne appointed administrator June 21st same year. And November the 27, 1881 Revd. Laurence Grehan was translated from Castletown kilpatrick to thich parish he was first appointed PP by
      ...arst. Revd. D Nulty 9th Nov. 1873 - having previously officiated as C>C> some time in Kilcock ..innegad. Tyrrellspass and in St. Mary's Drogheda -- was ordained priest March the 25th, 1863 -- Studied four years in Irish College Rome and finished his course in Carlow College died May 16th 1902 and was succeeded by Robert Barry P.P. translated from Kilsyre to Old Castle in 1902. Studied in Rome from 1873 to 1878 when he was appointed Most Rev. D. Nulty to be C.C. Mullingar 1890 was appointed commissary and after death of Rev. W Jones was created P.P. of Dunkany and Kilruissan in 1896 was translated to be P.P. of Kilskyre. Father Barry resigned the parish of Old Caslte and was succeeded by Very Rev. Patrick E. Duffy. Father Duffy was ordained in ............?........... 21st June 1896, having spent two years in the Drenlou gh
      House, Iney _ _ ?_ _ _lt College, he was appointed Professor in Old _ _ _? _ _ finians in 1898. In January 1900 he was secretary to the _ _? _ _ Sauphran L.C.C. Mullengar. In September 1911 he became Adam Mullengar & in 1916 P.P. of Hilsby. In October 1919 he was made a member of the Diocesan Council & in Dec. 1920 Vicor [Forane?] of the Deanory of Kells.
      On the 16th of May 1927 he became P.P. of Oldcastle.
