Notes - Statira Montgomery Willson is mentioned more often than any of the other off-spring of Alexander Montgomery Jr. & Judah Myers. Two dates are given for her marriage to Stillwell Willson in two different locations. One date is Nov 1816 and place of marriage was shown as York. Second date is 31 Dec 1816 and place is Markham. They may have had ceremonies performed in two different places and dates. The next mention of their family is description taken from "History of Toronto and County of York Ontarior" Volume II 1885, Blackett Robinson Publisher. It tell how young John Wilmot Montgomery and his cousin, Abraham Willson were in the old hotel, owned by John's father, "The Sickle & Sheaf" when the British fired on it 7 December 1837, cutting down the three chimneys. The boys thought it was some kind of a game until another volley entered their wing of the building. They were rescued.
The next notice in archives was upon Alexander's death in 1841 and his leaving his estate to several in family but the land was to go to Richard Montgomery. Stillwell Willson and Statira then brought a suit along with others in family against Richard and others concerned.
When Sarah Montgomery Marsh died at 104 years, Statira is again mentioned in the obituary. Statira also died in Ridgetown and is buried there. However, in an article written in 1883, when Sarah died, it says that Statira, Mrs. Stillwell Willson was 94 years old. This cannot be true. Had she been 94, her birth year would have been 1789. Had that been the case, she would have been baptized with older children on 3 Sept 1792 rather than Sept 1796. It is much more likely that Mary Ann was born about 1794 and Statira in 1796. That would mean she was married at the age of 20 and had her first child, Abram Willson when she was about 21, and her last child either her 11th or 12th when she was about 44. Had she been born in 1789, her last might have been born when she was in her 50's. She could not have been much older than 87 years when Sarah died in 1883.
