PATRIOT, KINGSTON
Jan 1830 - June 1831
11 Feb 1830: At York, on Wednesday, 3rd inst., Hugh Morrison, of Georgina, to Frances, youngest daughter of Alexander Montgomery, SR., Younge Street. (Rev. Dr. Phillips)" added in the margin below in writing: "Rev. Thomas Phillips d. 1834 was a schoolmaster of boys academy and later UCC. Came to York 1825 from England. He later married Richard & Hannah Smith.
There was a mistaken idea that Fanny married a Dr. Hugh Morrison but on reading about Hugh Morrison on information sent by Martha Hemphill, Hugh was a retired Capt. in Black Watch Highlander's Regiment. He did not arrive until 1829 and as seen above they were married in 1830. Their son Hugh Angus was also born in 1830. Capt. Hugh Morrison was a widow with five children by a wife in Scotland, Mary Curran. The eldest was ten when he married Fanny. We cannot tell if Hugh may have been a brother of the Dr. Thomas Morrison who was Inspector of Hospitals and became Mayor of Toronto in 1836. Capt. Hugh's oldest son became a Judge. His second son, Hugh Angus worked for 24 years on the railroad and was conductor on train from Toronto to London, Ont.
