Tommie Nichols sent the following info from the Davis Family Bible: "Our great grandparents were Peter Snider and Polly Montgomery, and her mother was Alma Bell Montgomery and came to this country when Polly was 10 years old from Ireland." She also sent this statement: "Polly Montgomery's mother was Ana Bell Robin (?) Montgomery.(source lost--questionable)" Although Laura James' source indicates Alexander and Elizabeth died in Blount Co., I am inclined to think they did not. (Barbara McClanahan)
Jan.1998: Per an e-mail from Katrina Dorneman (relatives@home.com), Robinson was a married name, not the maiden name of Mary Robinson. Her first husband was "Long John" Robinson, who was killed in 1756 at Vaus' Fort near Christiansburg, VA. He was her first cousin, the son of James Robinson. This information is documented in a number of places, including: the Draper Manuscripts; Court records of Augusta Co. VA; a genealogy book on the Scotch-Irish in Augusta Co. VA by Chaulkey; a history of Botetourt Co. VA by Kegley.
The daughter of "Long John" and Mary Robinson, Elizabeth Robinson, later married Alexander Montgomery of Blount County, TN, thus tieing these two lines together through marriage. Elizabeth inherited land from her father, "Long John" Robinson, and there was a long court battle over it which is documented in the Augusta Co. VA court records.
