Marriage record gives Mary's name as Mary E. Smith. Hunt County census for 1870 and church records of Pilgrim Baptist Church at Pike call her Mary J. McClanahan. Professor T. U. Taylor stated in his 1926 account of the Lee- Peacock Feud that Pete McClanahan married Mary Lee, daughter of Daniel Webster Lee and his second wife Betsy Ward. Ruby Oatman, her grandaughter, calls her "Mary Jane Lee, a native Texan." Young Co. death certificate gives d/o/d as 7-OCT-1931, but affidavit at Vol 152,p 393, & Mortuary Warrant Appl. say 1932.
