!Birth, death & other information gathered by R# 6. Montgomery family was closely associated with the Harper family for several generations. According to one source, came to the U.S. from Killallo (Killala?), Co. Mayo, Ireland. However, it is more likely that he came from Killaloo, Co. Derry, Ulster, Northern Ireland with other Presbyterians that came from that area to U.S. in 1719 and went to Casco Bay (near Portland) Maine thence to Merrymeeting Bay of the Kennebec River.
Possibly landed near old town of Cork, between Woolwich Township (Sagadahoc Co.) and Dresden Township (Lincoln Co.). Settlers were forced to move by Indian uprisings. William moved to Hopkinton, MA about 1720-22.

From letter on" Morrison- Montgomery alliance", by Anne S.Mundy (Mrs J.J.), Organizing President , Children of the American Revolution:
"--and it can be reasonably supposed that they (Montgomery's) belonged to the
Brigend family of Montgomeries of Ayrshire, a branch which is traced to
Ireland.
