Montgomery family was closely associated with the Harper family for several generations. According to one source, came to the U.S. from Killallo (Killala?), Co. Mayo, Ireland. However, it is more likely that he came from Killaloo, Co. Derry, Ulster, Northern Ireland with other Presbyterians that came from that area to U.S. in 1719 and went to Casco Bay (near Portland) Maine thence to Merrymeeting Bay of the Kennebec River. Possibly landed near old town of Cork, between Woolwich Township (Sagadahoc Co.) and Dresden Township (Lincoln Co.). Settlers were forced to move by Indian uprisings.
