She was a jewel and I believe that her ancestors would have felt proud to have her as a grandchild. Nona's first job was as a saleslady in a shop. (So says the census.) In the 1920 Census, her address was 3418 Massachussets Avenue, Indianapolis, IN. She then became a telephone operator back when they used the switchboards. She met my father when she was working for Indiana Telephone Company on North Stuart Avenue in Indianapolis. I remember Mom working on the switchboard at Sears in downtown Indianapolis, IN when I was in high school. Incredibly intelligent and wonderfully well-read, my Mom wowed us all. She gave birth to, as she always said 'seven sons and Susie' spread over 21 years."
