- "The service of Prof. E. P. Montgomery as a teacher in Savoy College was but a
brief interlude in his progress toward a career in medicine, nevertheless he
left a definite impression on the memories of many ex students, who prefer to
him only as Pink Montgomery, in a tone of respectful affection and admiration.
He as the great grandson of Thomas Montgomery, a native of Ireland, his grand-
father, William Montgomery was born in Penn. as was his father, George F.
Montgomery (his father was born 10 FEb 1827 in Monroe Co., Tenn.) The family
moved to Alabama whence George H. Montgomery as a young man came to Texas in
1848, and engaged successfully in farming and stock raising. The mother of E.
P. Montgomery was Martha J. Pritchett of Virginia. Edward was the second of
five children, and a biography of his father records the singular fact that all
five of the children were born in the same room, and were all converted into
the same church into which they were received by the same minister. This church
was the Cumberland Presbyterian, of which the father, was an elder for more
than 25 years. E. P. Montgomery was married to Roberta McKee of Grayson Co.,
daughter of Dr. Same and Mrs. McKee. E. P.'s brothers, William E. and George H.
Montgomery Jr. and sister Maud were all educated at Savoy College. Dr. E. P.
Montgomery and his wife had one child, Crawford Blair Montgomery. Dr.
Montgomery died in a car wreck in Whitewright in 1916. His wife died in 1925.
All are buried in the Whitewright Cemetery.
