  !DEATH: William and son John were massacred by Indians per Isla Montgomery, BRANCHES OF MONTGOMERYS AND LONGS; p. 75. William was named as a son of Alexander in Deed Book I, p. 247, Albemarle Co., VA. According to Marian Carter Ledgerwood's A MONTGOMERY AND COLE RECORD" William's wife Jane wasat St. Asaph's at the time of the massacre. !CONFLICT: Date of death according to John Rupe Everingham (#1032-address764 Beechnut, San Rafael, CA 94903) was March 1771. "It has been said that this William Montgomery was the brother-in-law as well as the neighbor of Capt. William Edmonston of the Holston. The latter, who was born in 1724. married Nancy Montgomery.
