    • WILLIAM MONTGOMERY MARRIED MARTA HIATT IN STOKES COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA IN 1803. MARTHA WAS A SISTER TO SARAH HIATT MONTGOMERY, AND LIKE HER SISTER, SHE WAS DISMISSED FROM THE CHURCH FOR MARRYING A NON-QUAKER. THEY LIVED IN GUILFORD COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA FOR SEVERAL YEARS AFTER THEIR MARRIAGE BECAUSE WILLIAM WAS NOT TAXED IN CARROLL COUNTY(THEN KNOWN AS GRAYSON) UNTIL 1807. THEY OBTAINED SEVERAL TRACTS OF LAND IN THE BURKS FORK AREA: 100 ACRES FROM JOHN PEARSON IN 1810 AND ANOTHER TRACT FROM HIS FATHER-IN-LAW, JOSEPH HIATT. THIS TRACT WAS POSSIBLY A GIFT. WILLIAM AND MARTHA MONTGOMERY SOLD THEIR PROPERTY AND MOVED TO HENDRICKS COUNTY, INDIANA IN 1835. MARTHA HAD REJOINED THE QUAKER CHURCH AND WAS GIVEN A CERTIFICATE TO A QUAKER MEETING IN INDIANA. THE HENDRICKS COUNTY CENSUS RECORDS OF 1850 SHOW WHERE THEY WERE STILL LIVING.
