George, also called G.C., was named after his maternal grandfather, George Connally.
Birthplace (his & wife's) info from census (I assume 1850 but do not know which state.) George, Magdaline & George's father (James Jr) all died in 1858. All of G.C.'s & Magdaline's children were adopted by various aunts and uncles. By 1860 they were living in Iredell County, NC. An E.C. Montgomery adopted several of the children.
