BIOGRAPHY: According to Encyclopaedia Brittanica, the surname Plantagent, which was first used by Geoffrey, Count of Anjou, was not used by his descendants in England for over 250 years...Henry II and his sons, Richard I and John, are now generally styled by historians as the Angevin kings, but for want of a better name, their successors, notably Edward I, II & III are still described as Plantagenets...The first official use of the surname Plantagenet by any descendant of Geoffrey occurred in 1460, when Richard, Duke of York, claimed the throne in the name of Richard Plantaginet...
