Mr. A.T. Chapman Is Dead
At Half Past Nine O'clock Last Night
He Passed Away
The Grim shadow of death has covered another home in Macon. Mr. A.T.
Chapman, one of the most prominent and respected citizens, died at hishome,
corner Oglethorpe and Boundary streets, last night at 9:45 o'clock.
The announcement will be read with pain and sorrow by the large circleof
friends and acquanintances who knew him and were associated with him inlife.
Mr. Chapman had been in failing health for some time and for the lasttwo or
three months had been confined to his home. Everything that medicalskill and
affection could do was done, but it was seen several days ago that thedisease
could not be stayed. He had been growing weaker and weaker and last night
quietly and peacefully passed away, surrounded by his devoted family.
Mr. Chapman was born in Coweta county in 1842 and removed to Macon in1874.
for many years he travelled for the firm of Jaques & Johnson, now the S.R.
Jaques & Tinsley Company, in whose employ he earned wide popularity as a
salesman. Severing his connection with them, he entered the lifeinsurance
business, and was known as one of the most successful solicitors in this
section of the state. At the time of his death he had charge of the large
interests of the Mutual Life insurance Company.
In June, 1871, he married Miss Mary V. Mitchell of Butler, Ga., whosurvives
him. He leaves three sons, A. M., H. Clifton, Harry D Chapman and
Mr. Chapman was a consistent member of the Tattnall Square Baptistchurch, of
which he was a deacon, and was considered one of the most conscientiousand
consecrated Christians of that congregation. his death will be keenlyfelt by
that church, to whose interest he was keenly devoted. The funeral willtake
place Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from Mercer Chapel.

him was Laura Mitchell, age 28, born GA, sister-in-law and RebeccaMitchell,
age 50, born GA, mother-in-law.
