Miss Chapman, Retired Librarian, Dies Here
Miss Lila Mae Chapman, retired director of the Birmingham, Ala. Public
Library, died at her home, 1580 Oglethorpe Street, early Thursday.
Miss Chapman, sister of the late H.D. Chapman, was born in Macon thedaughter
of Abner T. Chapman and Mrs Mary Mitchell Chapman. After retiring from her
Birmingham position she returned to macon in 1947 to make her home.
She was a former national librarian of the Phi Mu Sorority and was aformer
trustee of Wesleyan College. She was a member of St. James-on-the-Heights
Episcopal Church.
Funeral services will be held at the st. James on the Heights Episcopal
Church at 2 pm. Friday. the Rev. Ronald Merrix will officiate and theburial
will follow in the Riverside Cemetery.
Hart's Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Surviving are six nieces, Miss Lila Mae Chapman of Macon, Mrs. BurtonWyatt
of Atlanta, Miss Margaret Chapman of Pleasantville, N.Y., Mrs. ArnoldNappi of
Bedford, N.Y., Mrs. Allen Hammond of Brunswick and Mrs. J.I. Harrison of
Columbiana, Ala., and four nephews, Frank Chapman of Charlotte, N.C.,Billy
Chapman of Savannah, A.M. Chapman of Texas and Clifton Chapman of Tampa,Fla.
