    • !BIRTH-DEATH: From Rockingham (NC) book "The Heritage of RockinghamCounty,
      N.C.", published 1983 by Hunter Publishing Co., Winston-Salem, NC.
      "Alvis David, a direct ancestor of our family, was born September 28,1835, in
      Caswell County. He became a captain in the Confederate Army, serving as
      Adjutant to General Alfred Moore Scales. He later married the widowedsister
      of Governor Scales, Annie Elizabeth Scales Lawson. Alvis David owned and
      operated a store on the corner of Main and E. Market Streets, whiletravelling
      as a shoe manufacturer's representative. With his father-in-law, Dr.Robert
      Scales, he was an elder in the Presbyterian Church of Reidsville."
      " On April 13, 1875, Alvis David purchased from Mortimer Oakes ten acresof
      land fronting on Lawsonville Avenue, in Reidsville. He paid $350.00 forthe
      land and a cabin standing on it. The two-story cabin, typical of many inNorth
      carolina, was constructed of logs and clay witha stone fireplace and a tin
      roof."
