Hello Cousins! What a jackpot indeed! You both have given me a lot ofnew information and confirmed some of my conclusions.
I do have family information for you and will send it in a separatee-mail. In the Gedcom at:
http://www.tbcnet.com/~walkdkb/index.html - the tree lists a John NMontgomery (below). This seems to be the same person listed as John M.Montgomery in the 1850 census. All things considered, I believe this to be my 2ggrandfather because the dates, place and name seem to match. Other than that I have no definite proof, however, even though John Marion Montgomery's Death Certificate does not indicate names of parents,the evidence seems to show him to be the one and same person. I will also send a JPEG of the Death Certificate.

"Your" John Montgomery, and ours, was the first son and second child of James Montgomery b 1787 PA and Katharine Storm b 1791 VA (the third Montgomery family on your 1850 Scott census list.) Thomas J.Montgomery and Johnson Montgomery appear as separate heads of families and David E. appears as a laborer in the family of his older brother,Thomas. [John's younger brother, David E. Montgomery, moved his largefamily to Trimble, Clinton Co., MO about 1873, and I note that Trimble is not far from your home, Smithville. It is not unlikely that. David andJohn were in the same area at that time.] The remaining two 1850 Scott Co. Montgomerys you list, William C. and Lorenzo Dow, are not directly related to "our" Montgomery line, or to each other, as far as we can determine. Please send me your complete snail mail address and I will send you, for perusal, the tables of contents of four volumes (about 750pages) I have written about "our" line, which, in brief, starts with Hugh Montgomery (1698-Ireland, 1766-PA); William Montgomery (1721-Ireland, ?some place in America); William Montgomery (1754-PA, 1829-IN); James Montgomery (1787-PA, 1881-IN); Thomas J. Montgomery (1820-IL, 1918-IN),John's younger brother and my great grandfather. Anything you have on your 3xggf John and his descendants would be of great interest to us, ofcourse.
