      Malta Pilot, Is Killed in Florida Crash, Second Lieut. Alvin GeorgeMontgomery, 21 years of age,
      crashed to hisdeathat10:30 o'clock yesterday morning two miled southeastof Sanford Naval Air Station at Sanford, Fla., according to a telegramreceived from the War Department by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. EdwardMontgomery of Malta. Details concerning the tragedy were not conatined inthe brief report from the Army, other than the well known youngman diedin the accident. Alvin George Montgomery was
      born on October7,1922 in Malta, the son of Edward and NettieMontgomery.Heattended the rural
      schoools of his home communityualnd then enrolled atthe DeKalb TownshipHighSchool, where he was anoutstanding student,graduating with theclassof 1940. Uponcompletyion of his schoolwork he attended theTeachersCollege for a shorttime, and then found the opportunity to follow hiskeen interest in airplane work, going to Wichita, Kans., to attend anaircraft school. From that school he moved to
      Detroit, Mich., where he was employed in a factory making airplanes, androse rapidlly in the organization, reaching the position of instructor tonew factory employees. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in November of1942 and received his commission and wings on January 7, 1944. Hisknowledge of airplane construction and his interest in everything inconnection with flying made him an outstanding officer. His tragicdeathis mourned by his parents, Mr. and Mrs.Edward Montgomery of Malta,four sisters Mrs.Grace Hulen of Calumet City, Mrs. Pearl Olson ofRoscoe,Mrs. Rachel Berg of Esmond and Inez, in nurses training at SwedishAmerican hospitalin Rockford & two brothers,James of Kirkland
      and Wilber living at home. His grandmother,Mrs.Margaret Applebee liveson South Second St.DeKalb.
      Funeralservices will not be arranged until the arrival of the body, butburial is being planned in the Esmond cemetery.
