James E. Montgomery, Sr., 93, of rural Kirkland, died Thursday, September21, 2000, at his home. He was born December 3, 1906 near Malta, IL, theson of Edward and Nettie (Applebee) Montgomery. He was married to MildredDarnell and then to Mildred Carter. He farmed in the Kirkland, Esmond,Malta areas all of his life. He belonged to the Northwest UnitedMethodist Church near Malta, and attended the Calvary Baptist Church inBelvidere. Formerly, he was a member of the Lions Club and servedfourteen years on the Hiawatha School Board. He also belonged to theDeKalb Co. Farm Bureau. He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of ruralKirkland; two sons, James E. (Rebecca) Montgomery, Jr. of Kingston,Carter (Doris) Montgomery of Sanford, Maine; seven daughters, Bonnie(Kent) Kollman of Red Bluff, CA, Carol Miller of Malta, MarilynMontgomery of Morrison, Sharon (Don) May of Low Gap, NC, Janice (Tony)Suber of San Antonio, TX, Rebecca (Rod) Rodriguez, of Weslaco, TX, Ruth(John) Johnson, of Rhinelander, WI; a brother, Wilbur (Helen) Montgomery,of Esmond; three sisters, Grace Kiger of Crown Point, IN, Pearl Olson, ofMachesney Park, and Inez (Chuck) Knox of Lower Lake, CA; eighteengrandchildren, Dan and Kim Hove, Kelly Pryor, Michelle Worthington, ChrisMiller, Sheila Cobb, Jennifer Dulock, Emily Suber, Rodri and ElizabethRodriguez, Phillip, Bethany, Joel, Matthew, and Rachel Montgomery, AmyJohnson, John Johnson III, and Brittany Montgomery; ninegreat-grandchildren, Chris and Stacy Hove, Dennis Sinetus, ElizabethHove, Marshall Pryor, Jessica Pryor, Jonathon Pryor, Ryan Miller, MaggieMiller; a great great-grandson, William Hove; and several nieces andnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mildred(Darnell) Montgomery; two grandchildren, Ronald and Mark Miller; abrother, Alvin Montgomery; and a sister, Rachel Berg. Funeral serviceswill be held on Monday, September 25th at 1 p.m. in Quiram-KirklandFuneral Home with Pastor Todd Neff and Pastor William Bergstromofficiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at thefuneral home. Burial will be in Maple Cemetery in Kirkland. A memorialfund is established in care of Quiram-Kirkland Funeral Home, 309 S.
