Obituary from The Smyrna Times, Wednesday, December 12, 1928:
Mrs. Catherine Burrows Attix, Aged 88, of near Kenton, Widow of
Thomas Attix, Dies of General Debility...
"Mrs. Catherine Burrows Attix, died at her home in Kenton, Friday
night at 10:30 o'clock. She was the widow fo the late Thomas Attix who
died Feburary 7th, 1907. Mrs. Attix was born March 26, 1841, on the old
Burrows farm, near Kenton and spent her nearly 88 years within two miles
of her birthplace. She was the last member of a large family and her
husband was a member of a family of thirteen children and to them were
born eight children, seven of whom grew to manhood and womanhood and are
as follows: John W. Attix, Dover; Frank Attix, Kenton; Thomas Attix;
Clayton, and Mrs. Susan Attix Williams at home; Mrs. William Bryan,
Clayton; Mrs. Harry Wright, Cheswold, and Mrs. Thomas G. Banter (sic) of
Allenwood, Pa. Aside from the seven children there are living seventeen
grand-children and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Until about four
years ago Mrs. Attix's figure was straight as a woman of fifty but for
the past three years she has been in failing health. Old Father Time was
claiming his own, and finally his strong pull broke her tenacious chord
of physical life and all that was mortal passed the way of all flesh.
Mrs. Attix was a woman of rare christian grace, of noble spirit, of
generous nature, possessed of a great maternal heart, the kind of an old
frashioned woman whose presence seemed to give one the sense of Divine
Benediction. She was buried from her late home Monday, December l0.
Funeral services took place at l:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. Mr.
Geoghegan, pastor of Kenton M. E. Church. The pall bearers were: John
W Attix, Frank Attix, Thomas Attix, Thomas G. Banter, Timothy Sylvester
and William Bryan. Interment was made in Silver Lake Cemetery, Dover."
