Notes - James Montgomery married a second time, about 1845, to Elda Bennett, born ca.l 1816 (in Tennessee). Elda is said to have first been married to a Sullivan, and was a widow at the time of their marriage. It is believed that she had children by her first marriage. Checking on this, we found that in the census of 1850 and 1860, there were two Sullivans living with James and Elda Montgomery. They are: Henry H. Sullivan, born ca. 1839 in Missouri, and William B. Sullivan, born ca.
1836 in Tennessee. So it appears that Elda likely was first married to a Sullivan. The proof of her maiden surname of Bennett was found in the death record of her and James' youngest son at Wayne County Courthouse. Her death date is unknown.
