      ONE FAMILY TRADITION STATES WHERE WILLIAM CAME FROM IRELAND, TO PHILADELPHIA, THAT HE WAS QUAKER, AND WENT FROM PENNSYLVANIA TO GUILFORD CO., NC IN THE 1770'S. ANOTHER FAMILY TRADITION STATES WILLIAM ARRIVED IN PHILADELPHIA FROM EDINBORO, SCOTLAND, THEN TRAVELED BY SHIP AND WAGON TO NEW GARDEN (NOW GUILFORD COLLEGE, GREENSBORO, GUILFORD CO., NC, ARRIVING THERE IN 1772. (THIS TRADITION REGARDING HIS COMING FROM SCOTLAND HAS BEEN PROVEN TO BE INCORRECT. AM CURRENTLY WORKING ON HIS IRISH CONNECTIONS 9/9/91.)
