  He was first married to Louisa Jane "Lune" Tidwell, daughter of John Riley and Delana C. (Atnip) Twidwell. Lune was born 30 December 1876. They were married 31 October 1897. Lune died 30 March 1913. Buried Montgomery Chapel Cemetery, Silva, Missouri. Ben married a second time to Myrtle Ward, daughter of George and Martha (Bennett) Ward. Ben, second wife Myrtle, their infant son, and three of Ben's children by his first marriage were all killed in a tornado near Chaonia, Wayne County, Missouri on 30 May 1917.
