Mrs. Elvera Martinez Ebarb Procell, 96, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 11, at St. JosephCatholic Church in Zwolle. The Rev. David Richter officiated.
Mrs. Procell was a 1922 graduate of St. John's Academy in Many,Louisiana. She attended the Louisiana State Normal College in 1923 and1924, where she earned a two-year teaching certificate. She returned toNSU in 1944 to receive the B.A. degree in teaching. Her teaching careerspanned almost four decades, including a one room school in the Sepulvadosettlement, principalship of a two year school in the Ebarb community,St. Joseph's Catholic School in Zwolle, and the remainder at Ebarb HighSchool, as a teacher of elementary school, high school English, and asschool librarian. She retired from teaching in 1968.
"Miss Elvera", as she was called by decades of students, was a member ofthe Louisiana Retired Teachers' Association, The Sabine Parish RetiredTeachers' Association, and an active participant
in the Zwolle Retired Women Teachers; Organization. A devoted churchmember, she was a member of St. Ann Circle of St. Joseph Catholic Church,Zwolle. Mrs. Procell will be remembered by her many friends and relativesfor her life long teaching career, and for her strong devotion to familyand church.
Mrs. Procell was preceded in death by Patrick Ebarb, husband (1925-1936);George Procell, husband (1946-1949); Stephen Martinez, father; MaryFerguson Martinez, mother; George, Walter, Rupert, and Herman Martinez,brothers; and Elvia Martinez Ebarb, sister.
Survivors include Marie Ebarb Polk and husband Frank of Zwolle, PatriciaEbarb Helmstetter and husband Jerome of New Orleans, Eliose Ebarb Davis,wife of the late Chester Davis of Shreveport,
Gloria Ebarb Durr and husband Kenneth of Nacogdoches, Texas, Patrick A.Ebarb and wife Lisa of Richmond, Texas; 28 grandchildren; 42 greatgrandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces,nephews, cousins, and friends.
Pallbearers were Franklin Polk, Jerome Helmstetter, Michael Helmstetter,Robert Polk, Stephen Durr, David Durr, Walter Ebarb, and George Ebarb.
A special thanks to Dr. Vishnu Behari, Toledo Nursing Center, SabineMedical Center, and Thomas Home Health.
In lieu of flowers, donations cam be made to St. Joseph Catholic Churchin Zwolle.
