      42 Alderman Amos Leslie Rites Sunday Mr. Amos Leslie, 76, Milan North Ward Alderman, died of a heart attack Thursday, August 15th at SCM Hospital, having suffered the attack at home. He had suffered a heart attack earlier in the summer, but was present for the last city council meeting. Funeral services were held Sunday at Schoene-Wright Funeral Home with interment at Milan Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Leslie, who lived all his life in Milan, served for 42 years on the Milan Police Department, and retired as Captain of the Police Department in 1980. He also operated a backhoe and trucking service for many years. Mr. Leslie had been associated with other city services, having owned the land which was used as the city dump for many years. He also helped get street sweeping service started in Milan. Mr. Leslie is survived by his wife Marjorie of the home; one daughter Cleta Pickering and husband Bernie, Milan; and one son Alfred and his wife Jean, of Colorado; one sister, Dollie Chapman of Milan; five grandchildren, Leslie Pickering, Newton, IA; Jeffrey Pickering and wife Judy, Columbia; Christopher Pickering and wife Joan, Columbia; Sabrina Kay Leslie, Aurora, CO; and John Casper Leslie and wife Patti of Newton, IA; four great grandchildren, Brandon Pickering, Milan; Wyatt-Dean Pickering, Trenton; Christopher Amos Pickering, Columbia; and Katie Casper Leslie, Newton, IA. He was also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son Clayton Ray in 1960; his parents, Frank in 1966 and Pearl in 1967; also one brother Marion (Bob) in 1974. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 18th at the Schoene-Wright Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Tom Worstell. Casket bearers were Wm. J. Tipton, Edward Sayre, Gary Kay, Carl (Mutt) Ward and Ed Maulsby. Honorary casket bearers were Leman Atherton, Harry Frazier, Bob Morehead, Bernard (Moon) Webb, Garry Reynolds, Dora Leslie, Keith Ward and Clifford Spencer. Organ music was by Libby Cowgill. Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery.
