Notes |
Notes from Robert D. Montgomery, CMS# 1122: Born VA. First arrived in Jackson Co.TN in 1803.
Although there were significant differences, I merged the records of CMS# 362 and 1122. Differences:
#362 #1122
Born 1750 1764
Died 1831 2 May 1831
Place of Death Phillips Co., AZ Phillips Co., AR
Father John Montgomery Michael Montgomery
Mother Mrs. John M. Margaret
CMS# 1122 shows John Montgomery to be the father of Michael, whereas CMS# 362 shows the opposite, that Michael and Margaret are the parents of John. I will choose the data of CMS# 1122 to be correct for now, pending further research by the parties concerned. One reason is that there is no Phillips Co., Arizona, but there is a Phillips Co., Arkansas, which gives circumstantial credibility to CMS# 1122's data.
CLARIFICATION:
Per 1842 deposition by Dortheus Neale Montgomery, widow of Hamilton Montgomery, Hamilton was the son of John Montgomery and brother of Robert and Michael Montgomery, among others. Therefore the CMSI record is being changed on 26 May 2008 to reflect the information in the deposition.
From The Gardien, CMSI News Magazine, Summer 2004:
Alice Rose Plummer, CMS 1798, found information about Robert Montgomery in the courthouse at Liberty, Amite County, Mississippi. Robert was a founding father of the town and the courthouse was built on his property. Robert was the brother of Hamilton Montgomery, and both men were the sons of John Montgomery of Amherst Co., Virginia. Alice found the Last Will and Testament of Robert and also a deposition by his sister-in-law, Dortheus Neale Montgomery, the widow of Hamilton Montgomery.
Some excerpts from the deposition include:
