  Robert Montgomery was a screen actor who was well known in the 1940s for his suave good looks and sophistication. However, Robert was actually born Henry Montgomery, Jr. on May 21, 1904 in Duchess County, New York. Fishkill Landing is probably where the family was living at the time. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer saw to it that Robert's movie persona was slightly embroidered by embellishing the elite family background of its very handsome star. The facts were somewhat different. Robert's family lived in a boarding hotel, the Beacon....they hardly resided "in a large house on the banks of the Hudson River," as MGM claimed in press releases.
