Notes - At the age of sixteen, Charles H. Sullivan volunteered in Company H, 4th
Regiment, Delaware Infantry, on August 11, 1862. He served throughout
the war, was promoted to Corporal, Sergeant, and Orderly Sergeant, and
honorably discharged at the close of the hostilities. He was wounded in
the neck at the battle of Petersburg and was treated at the Fairfax
Hospital in Virginia.
Eventually he became assistant keeper of Ship John Lighthouse off
Bombay Hook, Delaware. He next shipped on an oyster boat with Captain
David C. Montgomery and later married the daughter of Captain David C.
Montgomery.
Upon his death, he was interred in Evergreen Cemetery, Camden, New
Jersey.
