Notes - Place of birth originally submitted as Surry Co., Virginia. However, in an email dated 4 Aug 2005, his daughter, Marsha Blizard, said the birthplace was "Surrey, North Carolina." A review of the road atlas shows that there is a Surry County in both Virginia and North Carolina, so we will assume that the daughter has the correct information.
Received an update on 10 Aug 2005 from C. Wade Roberts, CMS 1776, coorborating the Surry Co., North Carolina birth place and adding a nickname and place of burial. Notes said "Information on Spurgeon and descendants and parents of Betty Holiday was given by Spud's daughter, Kathy ..., from her personal knowledge. Death location from her daughter, Marsha.
