!BIRTH-MARRIAGE-DEATH: Gen of Peiter Heyl..he was a Lieut. in Co. E. 22nd
regiment, Wright's Brigade of GA volunteers. He lost his arm in thebattle of
Gettysburg July 2, 1863. He married and took his bride to the village of
Alpharetta, GA, where he taught the village school for a few years afterthe
War, and was engaged in the Mercantile business. Later, he was electedClerk
of the Court and thus served his County, Milton Co., for eight years, andwas
then elected Ordinary, and held that ffice for 16 years. During his lastterm
of office, and for several years after, he was owner and editor of theMilton
Democrat. In this last work, he was associated with his son, G.A.Nesbit, as
his publisher. In 1892, he left Alpharetta and with his family moved tohis
farm in Cherokee County, where he spent the remainder of his life. Dueto the
loss of his left arm in the War, he could not do manual labor, but wasvery
successful in Bee-raising, Gardening and Stock-raising. he was devoutlypious
and had no fear of death, and was buried in Hickory Flat Cemetery,Cherokee,
GA, with his wife who preceded him.
