INFORMATION SUBMITTED BY JUDITH MONTGOMERY BECKER, CMS 823 Said to have died as a British prisoner at the Battle of Waxhaws. 2/13/2000: Information from Steven Montgomery, CMS 240, points out that the death date of 1865 shown in the CMSI database cannot be correct if he died at the Battle of Waxhaws, which occurred on May 29, 1780. Death date was changed accordingly since multiple sources say he died in this battle. 20 Jan. 2003: On page 31 of The Descendants of Hugh Montgomery, Sr. and Some Related Families: John Montgomery (said to have been taken prisoner of war at Waxhaw, S.C., and died.)
