  !BIOGRAPHY: D.B.Montgomery; 1903(Reprinted 1992); THE MONTGOMERYS AND THEIR DESCENDANTS; J.P.Cox, Publisher, Owensville, IN; Pages 334-335. Per the Family Group Sheet from Wilma Hedge, John Patton Montgomery was born about 1770 and died about 1835 in Blount County, TN. However, the bible record of William Montgomery shows John Patton Montgomery, apparently a brother, was born 22 Jan. 1790, a discrepancy of 20 years. According to Charles & Phyllis Lowe of Austin, TX (Phyllis is a descendant of William), John P. married Sophia Steele, a sister of William's wife Sarah, and they all moved to Alabama about 1834. There is a John P. and Sophia Montgomery listed in the 1850 Census in Benton Co. AL. This census shows John P. to be 59 years old, born in Pennsylvania; this is consistent with the bible record and would also indicate that Thomas Montgomery did not move from PA to TN until after 1790. The Lowe's research also shows that this person later married Frances Slayton and died in Calhoun County, AL (originally called Benton Co.; name changed in 1858.) on 20 Mar. 1864; apparently they have a will and cemetery records to prove this. Per a record in the Family Search files of the Mormon Church, John Patton Montgomery was married to Patsy Martha Cheeney, bn abt.1770; this was apparently submitted by Montgomery L. Clason of Atwater CA in 1991. This needs to be checked out; if true, then the John P. Montgomery in the Wm. Montgomery bible may be a nephew of Wm. instead of the brother.
