- !BIRTH: He was the captain of a volunteer company raised for service inthe
Revoluntionary War, and with this company was inactive service from 1778to
1781. As he was given the rank of captain in 1778, it seems conclusivethat he
had seen service prior to that date; and he was probably the John Taylorof NC
who was in the Continential Army as ensign of the 1st NC regiment asearly as 1
Sep 1775. (Heitman's Historical Register, p. 393) Nothing further isknown of
him.
