!MARRIAGE: David Montgomery, P.O. Box 1248, Troutman, NC 28166..the dateof
marriage and all the descendants, thus far, came from David'sinformation. It
is not known which mother went with which children.
BURIAL: It is not known where either James or his wife Kitty were buried. Possibly they are in the cemetery located on the property of what is thought to be the old homeplace.
BURIAL: There was a family cemetery on the property. Mr.Turner Page reported in the 1970's that at one time more than thirty graves were there with several marked tombstones. Over time the marked tombstones have disappeared. In 1999 only unmarked stones remain.
BIOGRAPHY: James, along with two of his brothers, William and Abraham, all from Caswell County, came to Iredell County around 1830. Abraham settled just across the county line in Rowan County. James and William lived near the Fifth Creek Community.
BIOGRAPHY: James was a prominent member of the community. James and his nephew and son-in-law, David Montgomery, were the first two elders of the newly established Fifth Creek Presbyterian Church. James donated approximately five acres in 1850 for the new church.
BIOGRAPHY: He is believed to have lived on the present day Page Farm Rd. in what would be called the Montgomery/ Page House. It was demolished in 1999. He owned a considerable amount of land, with all or most of it passing to son William Thomas after James's death.
BIOGRAPHY: Another brother, John, would relocate to Iredell County about 1847-8 from Person Co., NC (Person Co. was formed from a part of Caswell Co. in 1791).
RELIGION: James and his nephew and son-in-law, David Montgomery, were the first two elders of the newly established Fifth Creek Presbyterian Church. James donated approximately five acres in 1850 for the new church.
RELIGION: While James was instrumental in the founding of Fifth Creek Presbyterian Church, his younger brother Archibald Davis would become a notable Presbyterian minister in NC.
