Earl was a dentist. He and Lois Powell did not have children of theirown. When Robert Ellis divorced Lois Stocker, Earl and Lois Powelloffered to adopt Roberta because, like Lois Powell, she had red hair.They refused to take Earleen too. Lois Stocker Montgomery refused toseparate her children and Lois Powell Montgomery refused to adopt both.The children were sent to live with their maternal grandmother in OaklandCity while Lois Stocker moved to Chicago to get a job to support them.
